According to Azzaman daily published in Iraq, Mrs. Alia Nussaiyef Jassim, Member of Iraqi Parliament from Iraqi National faction, condemned Ashraf siege and called it an inhuman measure and against the Iraqi Constitution.
She asked for annulment of Ashraf siege and called the Iraqi government to be obliged to the European Parliament resolution regarding necessity of support for Ashraf residents, not violating their rights, and not forcibly displacing them or forcing them to return to their country.
Azzaman daily wrote:” Mrs. Alia Nussaiyef Jassim specified on Wednesday: It is clear that the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) have been disarmed since long time ago and has had no military activities. This means that they are today non-military political refugees in Iraq and enjoy political and humanitarian asylum rights based on international conventions and treaties.
Moreover, the European Parliament has adopted a resolution in their support and protection of their rights and it is proved that their activities as Iranian opposition have been peaceful after they were removed from the terrorist list.”
Mrs. Nussaiyef Jassim added: The Iraqi people are hospitable people and the Ashraf residents are our guests. Mistreating them would tarnish Iraq’s prestige, and the siege on their city is an inhuman and denounced measure and is against the Iraqi Constitution.
