The talks are continuing in Lausanne, Switzerland even after the Tuesday deadline came and went. The AFP news agency is reporting Iran’s chief negotiator saying the problems remain and he insists there can be no deal without, what he calls a framework for the removal of all sanctions.
The French, Russian and Chinese foreign minister left the venue of the talks on Wednesday morning. But say they can return if enough progress is made today.
According to the CNN, the Iranian foreign minister saying that there wouldn’t be a deal today may be just a press statement. Clearly there are unresolved issues, not only on the sanctions, but on the research and development, on Iran’s uranium enrichment program. These have been the key sticking point all week and they haven’t been able to resolve that. There has been some progress, may be, but these key details are so important to the framework agreement and if you don’t have them, there is not going to be any agreement at all.
