Mullah Rouhani, in the Council of Foreign Relations in New York on September 26th: “In Iran everyone has easy access to satellite networks”
Mullah Rouhani, the president of the religious fascism ruling Iran, on September 26th said in the Council of Foreign Relations in New York, “In Iran everyone has easy access to satellite networks, and you can even see dishes on rooftops in every village.” Two days later, the Revolutionary Guards in the city of Shiraz announced it had used armored personnel carriers and roller trucks to crush 800 satellite dishes and receivers as a “symbolic act” and a “valuable measure to confront the cultural attack staged by the enemies of the revolution and establishment”, all at the “presence of Shiraz province and city officials”.
The IRGC website in Fars Province wrote in this regard: “IRGC tanks in Shiraz went to war against satellite dishes”, and added this is the “second phase of the extinction of confiscated devices carried out in just one of the bases allocated for the plan to fight against satellite dishes.”
The IRGC had also placed on a number of the dishes the US flag with “Death to America” written on it.
A few days prior to Rouhani’s speech, Iran’s culture minister Janati expressed concern that around 60% of the people in Tehran are using satellite dishes.
“Today, free access to information, satellite networks and the Internet… has resulted in a cultural attack resembling itself in immoral and invaluable examples in our society.” (Mehr news agency, affiliated to the Ministry of Intelligence – 13 September 2013)
Mullah Mohammad Saeedi, the Qom Friday prayer sermon and …, said on 25 September: “Today, the enemy, through cultural attacks and offensives, has targeted the depth of the homes and families”. Hossein Zolfaghari, Commander of the regime’s State Security Force Border Patrol gave news of a 99% increase in the discovery of satellite devices (ISNA state-run News Agency – 26 September).
The regime’s repressive measures and echoes of concern are a sign of the growing public hatred towards state-run TV networks and a desire towards prohibited TV stations, particularly “Simaye Azadi”, which is a reliable source of access to news and information especially regarding the mullahs’ dictatorship and the Iranian Resistance.
Previously, mullahs’ regime’s officials had described Simaye Azadi as “dangerous”. This includes the regime’s deputy media chief, who had stated: “Simaye Azadi, which is related to the activities of the Mohafeqin, is among the media outlets that has unfortunately infiltrated into most Iranian homes”. While expressing fear of the “doubling number of people who have turned to satellites”, he described its “growing trend” as “very concerning” for the society.
Smiles in New York; execution of prisoners and smashing satellite dishes in Iran; massacre at Ashraf and the killing of the Syrian people and chemical bombardments against them; this is the policy of the mullahs’ regime during Rouhani’s presidency.
