Iraqi MP Nabil Mohamed Harbu said the pressure enforced on Liberty residents is carried out in coordination with the Iranian regime.
“I believe there is a mutual understanding between the Iraqi government and Iran on increasing the blockade against Liberty residents,” he said.
“Transferring the residents from Camp Ashraf to Liberty was motivated from the very beginning and planned by the Iranian regime, with the goal being able to have further control and disrupt and limit their movements in a more intense manner,” this Iraqi MP added.
“Unfortunately the behavior towards them by the Iraqi government, with Iran being behind the actions, is carried out in a way that the government actually considers them as the enemy, not political refugees, because they are the opposition force of Iran,” Harbu continued.

 “Continuous aggressions against Liberty residents are carried out similar to the attacks that took place in Camp Ashraf and the crimes committed there. The Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission and human rights organizations are attempting to intervene in this regard due to the victims’ status, but it has been all fruitless,” he added.
“According to the law the Iraqi government must have a humanitarian stance regarding these individuals because they are refugees that have sought asylum in Iraq, and based on international laws it is necessary to even treat war prisoners in a humane manner, let alone refugees,” the Iraqi MP concluded.
