
Following the sudden and secret execution of political prisoner Aziz Khakzad who was imprisoned based on an unjustified 5 year prison sentencing, families of political prisoners on death row in Iran are concerned about the fate of their loved ones. The Kurdish political prisoners on death row that may be executed by the Iranian regime at any given moment include:
– Political prisoner Habibollah Golpari-pour, 27, who was arrested in the fall of 2009 in the city of Mahabad, western Iran. He was placed under severe torture for three months in prisons belonging to the IRGC intelligence and Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
– Political prisoner Seyed Sami Hosseini, 33, from the city of Salmas, northwestern Iran, was arrested in 2008 and transferred to MOIS solitary confinement in Salmas and then sent to a similar detention center in Urumieh.
– Political prisoner Seyed Jamal Mohammadi, 25, was arrested along with Hosseini in 2008 in the city of Salmas. He was transferred to MOIS solitary confinement in the city of Khoi and then to Urumieh. Mohammadi was placed under the most severe torture during the first three months of his confinement.
These three political prisoners who are on death row are held with 40 other political prisoners in Ward 12 of Urumieh Prison.
