The United Nations must act in Syria as it did in response to the cries of the Libyan people in stopping the killing of civilians, French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced. Regarding the people of Syria, Sarkozy continued that the UN must take action to prevent the massacre of the Syrian people.
The UN Security Council must rise to all its responsibilities in protecting and supporting the people, the French President at the sidelines of the General Assembly in New York. Using various methods, the UN must prevent the repression and killing of the Syrian people by the regime in Damascus, Sarkozy added.
The Syrian people have the right to determine their destiny, the French President added. Therefore, we must support freedom and democracy in Syria.
