Iranian official News Agency, ILNA wired a report describing the employment situation of nurses.
Head of the Iran Nurses Organization said 11,000 nurses across the country are unemployed. “It is surprising how some people deny this truth and claim we are running short on the number of nurses,” Ali Mohammad Adabi said.
“Unemployment amongst nurses is a reality that everyone is aware of,” Adabi said.
“Another issue regarding the employment of nurses is that many of them refuse to work due to receiving very minimum pay in return for the extremely hard work they do,” he added. “It is natural that they resort to other jobs and/or many remain unemployed,” Adabi continued.
Head of the Iran Nurses Organization referred to a case where 100 nurses in the city of Kerman were laid off from work.
“A number of these individuals were obligated to provide for a number of orphaned children and they are currently unemployed,” he said.
“While we are facing a crisis regarding unemployment amongst nurses, the Health Ministry says it is increasing the capacity of nursing students by 200 to 300 percent in the country’s universities,” Adabi added. “Without a doubt most of those graduating in this field will join the long line of unemployed nurses,” he continued.
“Nurses are either forced into unemployment or go abroad and seek to realize their dreams in other countries, while our country has placed a large amount of money to educate these nurses,” Adabi said.
