A young Khuzestani vendor who had self-emulated last week in Ahwaz died of his wounds in a hospital in Tehran.
Younes Asakareh set himself alight last week in protest to the brutal raid by the security forces on his small fruit stand and throwing them on the ground ruing his livelihood.
His brother said Asakareh passed away at 6am Sunday due to the severalty of his wounds and the extent of the burns on his body. His family said his fruit stand has been disrupted many times by the security forces on previous occasions. Younes’ repeated attempts to get a work permit were rejected according to his family.
Residents of Ahwaz demonstrated last Tuesday after Younes had self-emulated chanting anti-regime slogans. Many were saying “I am Younes.”
