Yemen Democratic Party Secretary General Ahmad Saleh Al Faqih in a recent interview revealed details of Iran’s meddling in Yemen, the Kuwait-based Al Seyassah daily reported on January 6th.
“I was the assistant Secretary General and after I assumed the role as the Secretary General, it became clear to me that Iran on a monthly basis provide $20,000 and $240,000 every year to the party,” he said.
“Former party leader Seif Al Washli fired a number of party senior members absorbed by Iranian intelligence cells. However, Yemen’s intelligence apparatus – affiliated to Iran – pressured him to return them into the party, which led to his resignation,” Al Faqih continued.
Al Faqih added the mullahs are seeking to form an independent state in southern Yemen to become an important strategic center for Iran from the Strait of Hormuz to the Arabian Sea. However, in the northern regions of Yemen, Iran is mainly involved in creating cells linked to its intelligence apparatus to maybe use them to carry out regional sabotage attacks in the future, he revealed.
