On the 85th day of Iranians and Ashraf residents’ families’ sit-in outside of the UN headquarters in Geneva, Margeriet Herman, the Belgian Senator, and Eline de Groot , project and research director of Jubilee Campaign’s human right group, spoke.
Mrs. Eline de Groot said: “Transfer of Ashraf protection from the US forces will endanger lives of around 4,000 PMOI members in Ashraf and we can not let this transfer take place; the Ashraf residents are “protected persons” based on the Fourth Geneva Convention, International Humanitarian Law, International Law, and non-refoulement Principle.”
Belgian Senator Margeriet Herman said: “I strongly support Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and her struggle for establishment of democracy in Iran.” Referring to Belgian Parliament’s resolution in 2005 regarding the necessity of reviewing the PMOI designation, she said: “However, the European Supreme Court ruled twice to remove the PMOI from the terrorist list.”
Also, solidarity messages of supporters of the PMOI in Manchester and Liverpool in England were read. Those messages reiterated their decisive will to continue the sit-in until the guarantee of Ashraf residents’ protection was met.
