UN Special Rapporteur: concerning widespread arrests of journalists in Iran

In Iran crackdown and human rights news, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran Ahmad Shaheed and five other UN special rapporteurs on human rights matters issued a joint statement expressing serious concerns over the arrest of journalists in Iran and heavy sentences issued against them.
According to AFP Shaheed and other UN rapporteurs said accusing people for the sole reason of expressing their beliefs is unacceptable. From May 22nd of this year to this day at least 36 individuals, including journalists, filmmakers, bloggers and writers in Iran have been arrested and prosecuted, and this shows a negative trend currently ongoing in Iran.
