The VOA cited Haydar Zubaidi, one of the Iraqi Army commanders, as saying: ”The goal of widespread military operation, particularly in Maysan, is to cut connections between Iraqi terrorist groups and the Iranian regime.

Zubaidi added: Because of the common border with Iran, Maysan province has turned into one of the centers for flow of the Iranian regime’s narcotics, terrorists and arms into Iraq.
