Elizabeth Sydney, one of the most prominent equality movement activists and political figures in the UK Liberal-Democratic Party, a long-standing advocate for the Iranian resistance and 1,000 courageous women in Ashraf, died after a long bout with Leukemia. She was 87.
A psychologist, Ms. Sydney was the President of “International Network of Liberal Women”. In 1998, she received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) Award from Queen Elisabeth in recognition of her efforts in defense of women’s rights and against violence on women.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, offered her deep condolences to family, colleagues and friends of Ms. Sydney in the UK. “Ms. Sydney’s efforts in defense of freedom and equality and her years of support for the Iranian resistance and Ashraf residents especially 1,000 Mojahed women in Ashraf, are unforgettable,” emphasized Mrs. Rajavi.
“The equality movement in confronting gender inequality and the Iranian regime’s misogynous fundamentalism will forever remember Elisabeth Sydney and her active role as the first president of Women Against Fundamentalism and for Equality (WAFE). And as long as this struggle continues, Elisabeth Sydney will be amongst the activists of this movement and supporters of the Iranian Resistance in spirit”.
