
On January 30, 1649, Charles I, Britain’s king, who was defeated by pro-parliament forces led by Oliver Cromwell in civil war, was beheaded by ax in public.
After escaping to Scotland, he was extradited to pro-parliament forces.
The parliament prosecuted him for treason to the nation, defilement of parliament authorities and slaughter of citizens of state. He ruled tyrannically for 24 years causing public outrage and his downfall.
