Allawi calls on UN chief to appoint special human rights envoy in Iraq

Iraqiya Coalition leader Ayad Allawi sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon requested the appointment of a special representative for human rights in Iraq.
Al-Sharqiya TV cited a source in the Iraqiya Coalition saying Ayad Allawi’s letter to Ban Ki-moon followed the continued human rights violations in Iraq. The most recent example of these violations are the blind arrests taking place in many provinces throughout the country, the continued torture of those arrested in Iraq’s prisons and a decrease in the level of public freedoms.
