EU concerned over Iran missile tests

AFP, July 11, 2008 (excerpts ) – The European Union expressed concern Friday after Iran test-fired missiles and said the tests would compound worries over its nuclear ambitions, a statement from the French EU presidency said.
The 27-nation EU called on Iran to negotiate an end to the standoff over its suspect nuclear activities in the statement issued after Tehran tested several missiles, including one said to be capable of striking Israel.
“These missile tests can only compound the worries of the international community,” said the statement.

“The European Union expresses its concern after Iran tested short-range and intermediate-range missiles on the 9th and again on the 10th of July,” said the statement.

“The EU calls on Iran to respond to the demands of the entire international community as expressed in UN Security Council resolutions and achieve a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue,” it added.
