Honorable dignitaries,
Sympathizers and supporters of the Iranian Resistance in Germany,
Dear compatriots,
I would like to salute you all.
On the 27th anniversary of the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, let us commemorate the heroes and heroines who are the shining symbols of perseverance against religious fascism.
In 1988, following his acceptance of the ceasefire in the Iran-Iraq war, Khomeini issued a fatwa to massacre groups after groups of PMOI and other political prisoners, because they refused to surrender to the religious dictatorship. They remained steadfast and dedicated a remarkable chapter to the annals of Iran’s history.
Today, images of atrocities perpetrated by ISIS arouse outrage among people around the world over the brutality of religious fundamentalists. Three decades ago, however, it was Khomeini who laid the foundations of this type of barbarism by massacring thousands upon thousands of Iranian youths after issuing fanatical fatwas.
At that time, the current supreme leader of the regime, Ali Khamenei, was the president and he publicly condoned the 1988 massacre by saying, “We execute prisoners and have no quarrels about it.” The regime’s current president, Hassan Rouhani, was at the time the deputy to the acting commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and a senior regime official. Rouhani’s Minister of Justice was a member of the “Death Commission” that issued the execution decrees.
Over the years, the ruling mullahs have been doing their utmost to wash away the evidence of this horrific crime against humanity but it will be impossible for them to simply wipe out this enormous event from Iranian history. The percolating blood of those martyrs continues to inspire the struggle and uprising of Iran’s young generation to overthrow the mullahs’ oppressive rule.
Dear friends,
Three days from now, September the first, is the second anniversary of the massacre in Ashraf where 52 courageous PMOI members were slain by mercenaries and agents of the Iranian regime in Iraq. And what an incredible concurrence!
The assault on Ashraf took place despite a four-sided agreement between the residents of Ashraf, the US administration, the United Nations and the government of Iraq. Based on this agreement, one-hundred PMOI members could have stayed in Ashraf until when the case of properties in Ashraf is settled, and there were no restrictions in this regard. However, as it was subsequently revealed, that under growing social pressure the criminal Khamenei had accepted sitting at the negotiating table on the regime’s nuclear program. So before anything else, he targeted his main enemy to deter the danger of being overthrown, and ordered his puppet pawn Maliki to launch an attack on Ashraf and massacre the PMOI members there.
The fifty-two heroines and heroes slain in that brutal assault elevated the steadfastness of Ashraf to its climax and shattered the spell of despair and submission. They persisted on their commitment to freedom and foiled the conspiracies of the infamous enemy with their valiance. This is how they spelled out the strategic epicenter of struggle and the source of inspiration and motivation for the people of Iran, and strew the seeds of one thousand Ashraf’s or bastions of freedom all across the nation.
One year after, in August 2014, the puppet Maliki who had perpetrated the killings and massacre of the Mojahedin, was toppled. His fall was a strategic blow to the Velayat e-faqih regime. The mullahs did everything within their powers to the last day, to save Maliki. And today, we see how the people of Iraq come out to the streets every day and demand holding Maliki accountable for all his crimes.
Regardless of the extent to which the mullahs kill, torture and subjugate people in Iran and no matter how much they foment terrorism and war in the region, they cannot escape their fate of being overthrown. This is because the ocean of blood spilt from the most valiant children of Iran, the PMOI and other activists, has forever stripped the regime of legitimacy and stability.
And it is the Iranian Resistance’s great commitment to ensure their cause will triumph.
As Massoud Rajavi (the Leader of the Iranian Resistance) said in his latest message: “The people of Iran will not be satisfied with anything less than the overthrow of the mullahs’ religious dictatorship and the establishment of freedom and popular sovereignty.”
The overthrow of the Caliph of fundamentalism, free elections, and drafting of the constitution for a new republic by the National Constituent and Legislative Assembly are the inalienable rights of the Iranian people.
Hail to the martyrs of the 1988 massacre
Hail to you, all
Maryam Rajavi
