The Iraqi National Front issued a statement condemning the trial in absentia and death sentencing issued for Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi.
This statement reads in part, “The Iraqi National Front considers the trial and sentencing resulting from judicial measures against Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi as an aggression against the law and a flagrant violation of justice and democratic principles, and an incursion against Iraq’s political process and society.”
The Iraqi National Front referred to the mullahs’ regime and added, “This unfair fabrication of a judicial dossier was from the very beginning a political plan and agenda, a plot to silence the voice of the dissidents with the support of a regional party, and lacks any legal standards and judicial fundamentals.
The Iraqi National Front condemns the death sentence against Dr. Tareq al-Hashemi and considers this measure as a heavy stop towards dictatorship and one-party rule. The Iraqi National Front calls for international intervention in this legal fiasco.
