On January 3, 1997, 3000 protesting students staged a demonstration in Tehran’s University dormitory in Amirabad, Tehran and clashed with the State Security forces (SSF) agents who were dispatched to suppress them.

Chanting the slogan “death to despotism”, the students asked for overthrow of the dictatorial clerical regime. They spread out the demonstration out of the University into the streets and blocked the streets “unknown martyr”, “northern Kargar”, and Chamran Highway.

Following the angry demonstration of Tehran University students, Mr. Massoud Rajavi, leader of the Iranian Resistance hailed the students.
