AFP, 1 Sep 2014 – Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI opposition in exile) warned on Monday of the risk of an association of Iran in search of a solution in Iraq, considering that it would lead to “encourage sectarian war” in this country.
“The Iranian regime in a misleading cooperation with global demand to fight the Islamic State, the scenario repeats known in 2003 (year of the fall of Saddam Hussein in Iraq by the American military.) But joining the Iranian regime to resolve the crisis in Iraq sectarian war means to encourage and increase the risk of the Islamic state,” said the chairman of the NCRI, Maryam Rajavi, at a news conference in Paris.
The Iraqi government has faced since June 9 offensive EI, a Sunni extremist group who took large areas in five provinces of the country, resulting in tens of thousands of people escape.
The United States intervened militarily in August by air strikes against the positions of EI in northern Iraq. They asked a coalition of “widest possible” against EI nations. The call was echoed by Iran, which called for a global effort against the Islamic state.
“The disaster in Iraq today are the result of what the United States did, in practice, meant to offer this country the militias of Mullahs,” Rajavi said.
In Iraq, jihadists of EI are supported by part of the Sunni community, which is considered marginalized by the government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, a Shiite, recently replaced.
“If you oppose the Islamic State is an absolute must do it without removing the Iraqi regime of Mullahs and their terrorist bands will be like a stab in the water,” continued the president of NCRI.
At least 1,420 people were killed in violence in Iraq in August either in clashes between the armed forces and the Islamic State, or deadly sectarian attacks.
