Residents of Behbahan, central Iran, protested the city council’s plan to destroy the famous Steel Square in the town. The protest started when laborers on the orders of city council officials tried to bring down the monument at the center of Square. People protested and the demolition stopped. The workers also joined the demonstration and the popular Square was saved.
It is said that the decision to bring down the monument in the center of Square was taken when an ignorant official saw an aerial photograph of the Square and thought that it looks like the Israeli flag. So he decided to destroy the whole Square.
