The Trade Unions Council in Australia, representing 24 trade unions with 30,000 members, issued a letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay expressing its support for the rights of Ashraf residents and emphasizing on the need to cancel the Iraqi government and Maliki’s deadline.
This council called on Mrs. Pillay to station UN monitors in Ashraf and declare the camp as a civilian zone vacant of any Iraqi armed forces, and be recognized as a refugee camp under permanent UN observation.
This council also added along with the international community, the Iraqi government must be implied to accept international laws referring to Ashraf residents to therefore cancel the ultimatum to close down Camp Ashraf as soon as possible and remove the loudspeakers installed by agents of the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security to psychologically torture Ashraf residents.
