Tens of thousands of supporters of the Iranian opposition gathered Saturday to protest against the current regime ruling Iran and demand democracy and more freedom of speech in their country.
Organizers had promised over 3 thousand MPs from Europe and the US would attend this grand gathering.
Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar who spoke for the audience said to Reuters the sanctions on Iran are not enough.
He added, ’The international community lost a very important opportunity a year ago when they did not give strong support to the freedom fighters in the Iranian streets,and now we continue to approve sanctions that I consider are not enough.’ Former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton told Reuters more has to be done to prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining nuclear weapons.I do believe sanctions can have a part in this, however we need more sanctions to bring about the overthrow of this regime.”
He said, “’I don’t think sanctions will prevent this regime from obtaining nuclear weapons, I do believe sanctions can have a part in this, however we need more sanctions to bring about the overthrow of this regime.”
The significance of this assembly was the gathering of supporters from all over Europe.
