Families of Iraqi POWs call on UN for the release of their loved ones from Iran’s prisons

al-Babeliya TV, 27 December 2010 – Families of Iraqi POWs whom have been detained in Iran’s prisons for the past 30 years called for urgent intervention by the Iraqi government, the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to have their loved ones released from the Iranian regime’s dungeons.
Thousands of Iraqi families demanded Iraqi government intervention to specify the whereabouts of their detained loves in Iran’s prisons. Thousands of Iraqi POWs from the 8-year long Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s have been imprisoned in Iran’s prisons for around 30 years. These families called on the Iraqi government, the UN, the ICRC and related international organizations to free the detainees from the Iranian regime’s dungeons. They express questions regarding Iran’s insistence, asking why after the passage of 22 years from the end of the Iran-Iraq war the Iranian regime continues to insist on holding over 300 Iraqi POWs in its prisons? The Iraqi families stressed Iran’s actions is against all international laws and covenants, and a flagrant violation of all humanitarian, moral and religious treaties by a government claiming to believe in Islam.
