Following the historic victory of the Iranian Resistance and the removal of the PMOI from the British list of proscribed organizations by both Houses of Britain, a press conference was held in Brussels, chaired by Mr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, Vice President of the European Parliament.
In this press conference, a number of the EP representatives and a representative from the British parliament as well as representatives of the National Council of Resistance in Britain and France and the chairman of the National Council of Resistance’s Foreign Affairs Committee took part.
Alejo Vidal-Quadras, Vice President of the European Parliament, said: Last night, both British Houses unanimously and officially approved to remove the PMOI from the terrorist list. I want to congratulate Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for her brave and clarifying leadership in this file. We could say that ultimately justice got victorious, with this new and important chapter in struggle for justice and rule of law, we have to take next steps until the EU implements this decision too.
Of course, we as the EP members are very angry that EU hasn’t complied with the British Court of Appeals that has decisively removed the PMOI off the terrorist list. The main pillar for PMOI designation in the EU list was based on a “state competent authority” which was the British government. With the Britain having withdrawn this decision, it is the EU’s turn to implement the law.
Brian Binley, the British conservative MP from the House of Commons, said: As Mr. Vidal-Quadras, Vice President of the European Parliament said, I hope that the terrorist designation of the PMOI in the EU be immediately annulled. The reality is that the EU put the PMOI in the list only upon the request of my country. Our government said last night in the House of Lords: The decision of PMOI designation in the EU list was made by our country and now that this decision is dismissed, it would be quite strange if the EU doesn’t follow us to de-proscribe PMOI.
Mrs. Dowlat Noroozi, the representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in Britain, was the next speaker who said: Now it is the time that Europe, not only complies with the law and de-lists the PMOI, but also by rejecting the appeasement policy and making concessions to the terrorist mullahs, politically supports the Iranian people and resistance movement.
Struan Stevenson, Vice President of Group of the European People’s Party-European Democrats, and the Co-Chair of the Friends of a Free Iran in EU, said: We know that in all meetings that Solana and other EU officials have with the Iranian regime, the constant request of the regime is to maintain the PMOI in the terrorist list. When Solana was in Tehran, keeping PMOI in the list was requested again. I tell the EU Council of Ministers that should you want to establish relations again with the people, you must respect the courts verdicts. Therefore I remind the Council of Europe again not to postpone this issue anymore and not to play games anymore; listen to the verdicts of European and British courts and both Houses of Britain and remove the PMOI from the terrorist list immediately.
The last speaker was Mohammad Mohaddessin, chairman of the National Council of Resistance’s Foreign Affairs Committee, who said: After the British Parliament decision, I emphasize on three basic points: first the EU must immediately remove PMOI from the terrorist list, apologize them for this injustice, and acknowledge the Iranian Resistance for democracy; second the terrorist tag against the PMOI in the U.S. must be thrown away too, because there is no justification for this label, and third is that although the PMOI members in Ashraf have been protected so far persons according to the Fourth Geneva Convention and have not been liable to the terrorist designation, but after the Britain’s decision, which is a member of the Multi National Force, any limitation against Ashraf residents under the pretext of terrorist list is multiply illegal and must be lifted.
