The article “Schumer Joins Opposition to Iran Deal” (U.S. News, Aug. 7) gives hope that the deal might be defeated. But it leaves the impression that those who feel pressured to vote “no” are mostly congressmen and women who have large Jewish constituencies. I would hope that all of Congress would feel this pressure from non-Jews too. President Obama’s claim that it is either this deal or war is less than honest. It isn’t a question of war or no war, but of when. Would we rather have war before Iran has nuclear-weapons capability or after?

The opposition to the Iran deal isn’t a Jewish issue. The inspection procedures are faulty, and Iran will eventually be able to become a nuclear power. That we could do no better is merely a confession of weakness. Money talks. Keep the sanctions and Iran will bend. When will the administration and its supporters face the truth that Iran cannot be trusted? Its leaders have no respect for democracy or honesty.

You shouldn’t have to be Jewish to recognize that the Iran deal is a looming disaster for the interests of this country, its allies and the security of the world.
