Iran: Continuation of strikes, protests in Kazerun, Baneh, Isfahan, Ahvaz and other cities

Uprising – No. 147

Thousands of people of Kazerun on Friday April 27 marched from the main square to the mullahs’ Friday prayer show and by chanting slogans such as "If we are betrayed, we will resurrect again", "We are from Kazerun, we do not accept separation," "Non-indigenous authority, resign, resign", called for the presence of the governor and his accountability to their demands.

This protest rally took place while the clerical regime arrested a large number of young people in night raids in order to intensify the atmosphere of terror and prevent the continued protests of the people of Kazerun.

Merchants and businessmen of Baneh continued their strike for the thirteenth day against the dire livelihood situation and extortion of the regime. The night before, the people of this city gathered at the governorate and demanded the dismissal of the governor. The people of Baneh also protested the poverty and hunger of the people of this region by setting empty tables on the streets. A number of children also attended this protest rally with hand written banners saying: Dad has no bread, Our table is empty.

Desperate farmers of Shatoor (in the east of Isfahan) destroyed 20 of Faizabad's water valves on Thursday night, April 26, in protest to their deprivation of water rights. These valves belong to pipes that take water to paths other than agricultural land. On Friday morning, regime authorities sent a large number of repressive forces to repair damaged tubes under their protection.

Qazvin Steel Workers in Takestan (Qazvin province), whose wages and insurance preminums have not been paid since last year, protested on Thursday for a third day in front of the office of the Member of Parliament. The day before, they had gathered in front of Qazvin governorate.

On Thursday, April 26, in Ahvaz, depositors of the Arman Vahdat Institute gathered in front of the institute and closed the institute. They had gathered in front of the organization's Naderi branch the day before. The protesters chanted: "What did the clandestine hands do with our money?" "Bankrupt indtitution, abandon our money!" In Kerman, depositors of the Caspian Institute gathered in front of one of its branches. Angry protesters shuffled the institute and closed off the branch.
