INTV, 15 Oct 2013 – Italian mayors in the province of Pie Monte issued a statement reiterating, “Based on signed agreements, the United States government and United Nations must guarantee Camp Liberty residents’ security. However, to this day no effective measures have been taken.
“We mayors condemn the attack against unarmed residents by Iraqi forces under orders from Iran’s mullahs.
“We remind the Iraqi government, UN and US that these residents are ‘protected persons’ under the 4th Geneva Convention. Therefore it is necessary to:
– intervene for the release of the hostages and guarantee their return to Camp Liberty
– UN and US government, based on their commitments and duties, must protect refugees residing in Camp Liberty and take action for the stationing of UN blue-helmet forces in Liberty
