North Baghdad residents in various districts staged numerous demonstrations protesting delays by Nouri Maliki’s government in providing basic services and people’s most dire needs. Demonstrators chanted anti-government slogans and clashed with Maliki’s agents.
Al-Sharqiya TV reported Iraqi Army forces positioned in the streets to disperse the demonstrators attacked the protesters, with clashes reaching a point where security forces called for backup to gain control over the demonstration and scatter the crowd. Army forces also ordered all reporters to evacuate the area, preventing them from covering the news.
