Iran: female prisoner deprived of her rights for not being able to memorize Quran

Prison officials in Yasuj, south-central Iran, barred a female prisoner from any visits due to not memorizing the Quran.
Kurdish political prisoner Ghadrie Ghaderi has been deprived from any phone calls or family visits for the past month.
“Prior to this she was ordered to memorize the Quran to be allowed to have family visits. After her dispute with prison officials over this issue for the past month she has been deprived of any phone calls and visits with her family,” an informed source said.
This Kurdish political prisoner had prior to this launched a hunger strike protesting “being held amongst ordinary criminals” in the women’s ward of this prison and “being deprived of a leave”.
While under interrogation and being held in solitary confinement of Yasuj prison she began suffering ear infection, severe headaches and numbness in one of her hands. Ghaderi was arrested in late 2010 in the city of Urumieh, northwest Iran.
This political prisoner was sentenced by the Urumieh revolutionary court to 10 years behind bars on charges of “collaborating with a Kurdish party”. In an appeals court her sentence was decreased to 7 years behind bars and exile in Yasuj prison.
