The Kuwaiti daily Assiasah cited a high ranking official in Maliki coalition as saying that the Syrian president Bashar Assad has called on Baghdad and Tehran to intensify their cross border attacks on the Saudi soil to avenge the Saudi support for the opposition in Syria. “Launching mortar attacks by the so called Mokhtar Army against areas around Saudi border was not an isolated incident, rather an organized and pre-planned operation. Assad believes that this new campaign to strike on Saudi from Iraqi soil is an effective means of putting pressure on Riyadh to force them to stop supporting the Free Syrian Army,” he added
