Pope Francis has launched his first trip to the United States.
US President Barack Obama welcomed Pope Francis at a military airport near Washington. In his 5-day visit the Pontiff is scheduled to visit the cities of Washington, New York and Philadelphia, and he will be delivering a speech to Congress on Thursday.
Pope Francis will also be speaking in the United Nations General Assembly marking the 70th anniversary of this international organization.
