Reports indicate an Iranian American citizen by the name of Hamed Ghasemi in Iran.
Everything began around 6 weeks ago when Ghasemi traveled to Iran to bury his mother, and was jailed on charges that are said not to be true.
Ghasemi’s trip to Iran was scheduled to last a few weeks. Therefore, another individual has been added to the 4-man list of Iranian-Americans detained in Iran.
One of his friends told a local TV station in the United States that concerns raised when Ghasemi’s absence prolonged and he did not return from Iran. In attempts to make calls with his family, his friends realized that Ghasemi had been arrested.
Ghasemi’s friends and families in Tehran provided hope to their friends back in the US through Facebook that Ghasemi will be released soon. However, the status quo has continued for weeks.
Ghasemi’s friends are attempting to follow up on his conditions through local, state and also federal officials in the US. However, according to Scott Sullivan, a Louisiana University law professor, this case should not be turned into a political dispute.
Ghasemi’s family and friends have prepared a petition asking the White House to intervene in this regard.
