Deadly missile attack on Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty

Thursday’s deadly missile attack on Camp Liberty near Baghdad International airport which left two dozen killed and scores wounded has been given wide press coverage.

US News reported rockets at base near Baghdad airport housing Iran refugees left several Iranians dead. It said a barrage of rockets slammed late Thursday into a former US military base that currently houses an Iranian refugee group, killing more than 20 people dead.
The US News cited the MEK statement saying they regularly report worsening health conditions within their isolated camp and accuses the Iraqi government of neglect and human rights abuses.

The English Guardian also said rockets strike Iranian opposition camp in Baghdad. The paper cited security sources saying missiles have been fired at a base near the international airport west of Baghdad that houses exiled Iranian opposition members. It also cited a MEK saying that the attack was the worst to have targeted the camp so far. The spokesman claimed that several people were killed. “We were in our housing trailers when missiles started to fall … Not everybody managed to take shelter,”

AFP also covered the missile attack at the camp saying Camp Liberty is a former US military base currently housing members of the People’s Mujahedin of Iran, an opposition group that has been exiled since the 1979 Islamic revolution. A spokesman for the Mujahedin said the attack was the worst to have targeted the camp so far.
“We were in our housing trailers when missiles started to fall…Not everybody managed to take shelter,” the spokesman said.
He claimed that several people were killed but could not say how many.

The Iranian regime Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) news agency conceded that Camp Liberty was the actual target of Thursday’s missile attack. It also acknowledged that it was Katyusha rockets that hit the camp killing two dozen.
