Despite numerous requests placed by Saeed Shirzad, and despite the principle of separating prisoners based on their crimes, prison authorities and judiciary officials have recently opposed the transfer of this prisoner to the ward of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Rajaie Shahr Prison.
Shirzad is a political prisoner that has recently entered the 14th month of temporary detention. He is currently held in ward 1 of Rajaie Shahr Prison along with non-political prisoners, and has threatened to go on hunger strike if his request for this legal transfer to hall 12 is not agreed to.
Shirzad was arrested on 2 June 2014 at his place of work in the Tabriz oil refinery and first transferred to Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison. After some time due to protests and follow-ups on problems in this prison, he was exiled to Rajaie Shahr Prison despite the fact that no court hearings were held and he had been imprisoned under temporary detention during this period.
