Paul Ryan, the top elected Republican, endorsed Donald Trump on Thursday in the Nov. 8 presidential election, a step toward unifying party loyalists behind the presumptive Republican nominee.
The decision, announced by the House of Representatives speaker in a column for a newspaper in his home state of Wisconsin.
Ryan was the 2012 vice presidential running mate of Mitt Romney.
Ryan did not specifically use the word “endorse” in his column, but his spokesman, Brendan Buck, made clear that Ryan’s move should be seen as an endorsement.
