Al-Rashid Research Center website, 7 July 2008 – Iran’s meddling in Diyala province and smuggling mines, explosives and rockets through the border continues.

In an interview with Iraqi press, Ibrahim Bajelan, the head of Diyala Provincial Council, said, “there is no control over Iran-Iraq border, and the border units lack equipment and many necessities that enable them to control the border.

Bajelan revealed that the intelligence received by security organs two months ago shows that a huge amount of mines, rockets and explosives including 67 consignments have been smuggled through Iran-Iraq border by the smugglers. He reiterated that the Iranian party is not willing to control the borders to keep the chaotic situation that is misused by special groups inside Iraq.
