Harmful insects such as bed bugs have been on the rise in ward 8 of Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison. This is causing a major issues for the prisoners.
To resolve these problems the prisoners reported the matter to prison authorities and requested insecticide substances to be sprayed in and around the wards. However, to this day there have been no responses and they have been forced to order and purchase the necessary substances at their own expense from the prison store.
Hossein Rafi’i and Amir Amirgholi are two prisoners in this ward who have been bitten by bed bugs and are in inadequate conditions.
Bed bugs, known as ‘Dracula’, feed on the blood of human beings and other warm blooded animals. Some time ago with another illness spreading in Evin’s ward 8 the prisoners in high numbers suffered from a serious infection. A number of prisoners suffering from this illness caused concerns for other prisoners regarding their conditions and the threat of this illness spreading is very high.
