Mullahs’ meddling in Eritrea

Eritrea in Africa faces serious isolation due to its support for radical and fundamentalist insurgents in north Somalia and its crackdown of dissidents. To recompense this isolation, the ruling government has opened the gates for regimes such as Iran to carry out their own activities on its soil and has also signed a defense agreement with Tehran.
The U.S. think tank Stratfor in its latest report revealed detailed information on Tehran’s meddling in Eritrea.
Based on this report, Iran has security personnel present in this country’s port in Asab where naval activities are focused. Eritrea has also received unknown amounts of money and military aid in return for Iran’s Quds Force present on its soil.
According to Stratfor, the Iranian regime’s activities in the region are in line with its intention to gain control over the waterway leading to the Red Sea.
