Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced in a speech in Ramallah he will seek Member State recognition for Palestine in the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Palestinian Wafa news agency reported.
“The Palestinian Authority is determined to, in around three weeks in the UN General Assembly, request Member State recognition for Palestine,” Mahmoud Abbas said.
He once again reiterated the Palestinian people’s demand for settlement building in Palestinian territory to be halted and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Based on the Wafa news agency wire, the Palestinian President also said in Tehran Ahmadinejad proposed to host Palestinian talks with Hamas, receiving Abbas’ refusal in response.
The Wafa reports added Mahmoud Abbas stressed the Palestinian people reject any effort dividing Palestine, and any individual who seeks to establish a separate government in Gaza will not succeed because the Palestinian people will not permit such a measure.
