The Al-Jazeera TV correspondent reporting from Tehran described the ongoing turmoil and uprising in Iranian capital very great and dangerous and a show of Iranian people’s will for change.
The anchorman asked Aljazeera correspondent: “Moussavi asked his supporters to refrain from violence. How is the security situation in Tehran?”
Aljazeera correspondent in Tehran said: Neither Mir Hossein Moussavi’s request, nor Ahmadinejad’s speech and not even Khamenei’s earlier remarks cannot calm the ongoing violence. What I saw on Tehran’s streets was the young generation- the generation between 15 and 20 or 25-that is angry. They are very furious. There is a lot of suppression. They do not regard the election outcome a problem; in their view the problem is that the change has been delayed. They are thirsty of change, and hence their anger erupted in a self stimulated way and was demonstrated in the form of destroying state buildings; a form that cannot be quelled by Moussavi or others.
Iranian officials dispatch a big number of their forces to Tehran’s streets, the leading of whom was the anti-riot force; they surrounded the demonstrators and encountered the youths very violently. Reciprocally, the youth confronted them with great violence and, from the beginning, attacked them very violently. Right now, the violence and anti-violence on Tehran’s streets is vey massive and very dangerous.
Q: Were you witness to any arrests?
Reporter: The opposition is opposition and it has nothing to do with Mir Hossein Moussavi or others; their calls cannot impact the situation on the streets. This is the youth’s anger; it is a generation that seeks other goals which is very different from the language that Khamenei or Moussavi speak. The youth attack the forces carrying shields and then retreat, but again they set the vehicles and motorcycles ablaze. These scenes happen repeatedly, there are not many arrests, but there have been some. Everybody awaits the night and what will happen then.
