AP, Vienna, September 7, 2009 – The U.N. nuclear watchdog says his agency is locked in a ’stalemate’ with Iran over the country’s suspect nuclear program.
International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei has told the agency’s 35-nation board that Iran has not suspended uranium enrichment. He says Tehran has not cleared up other lingering questions about its atomic activities.
ElBaradei urged Iran on Monday to ’substantively re-engage’ with the Vienna-based IAEA to prove there are no military dimensions to its nuclear program.
Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful. The United States and key allies contend it is covertly trying to build a bomb.
The IAEA board is taking a hard new look at Iran and Syria this week.
