Maryam Rajavi’s Message to the London Conference

Following is the message of Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance to the conference of a group of the British cross-Party MPs on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,  in the House of Commons to urge the British government to cut ties with the Iranian government and support the democratic opposition to bring about regime change:

Mr. Chairman, honorable parliamentarians, and dear friends,
It is a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to address this very important meeting.
Allow me first to pay tribute to Lord King, the great friend of the Iranian Resistance. His memories and relentless efforts on behalf of the Iranian people and residents of Ashraf will always stay with us for ever.
I am grateful for your attention to the crisis in Iran and your help in support of the solution.
The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom
has always warned about the threat of the Iranian regime and has consistently pointed out the real solution which is the Iranian Resistance.
The current situation in Iran and the region confirms the correctness of the policy you have been advocating.

Now the world can see that:
•    The Iranian mullahs are behind the continuation of the bloodbath in Syria,,
•    Following the departure of American forces, Iraq has engulfed by crises due to mullahs’ meddling,
•    In Afghanistan, at a time when NATO force are preparing to leave, the threat of mullahs has become a major obstacle,
•    The prospect of a nuclear bomb in the hands of the mullahs is closer than ever,
The religious fascism is denying the Iranian people their fundamental rights and benefiting from better economic and cultural relations with the rest of the world including Western world. It is for these reasons that the Iranian Resistance has always insisted that “regime change” is the only solution and the key to change is in the hands of the Resistance.
All other means to deal with the regime and its export of fundamentalism has failed.  If appeasement of the mullahs could have changed their behavior, Europeans must have succeeded many years ago.  If giving substantial concessions to the mullahs, such as proscription of their main opposition movement, could soften mullahs’ stance, the Europe and United States should have succeeded during the past 15 years.
The result of having the wrong policy towards the mullahs, is not only that the fundamentalists continue to hurt the world, but it also has confused many about the nature of fundamentalism, reasons for its expansion and the reason behind failure of policies adopted to counter it.
But the reality is very simple. .   The Iranian regime with huge revenues from oil, and suing terrorism is   directing expansion of fundamentalism.
We have always said that to deal with phenomenon, one has to look at the source of the problem. The Iranian regime for its own survival needs to expand fundamentalism. That is the role of the Ques force and its intervention in other countries.
I repeat that there is only one solution: side with the wishes of the Iranian people for “regime change.”  And Recognize the Resistance for freedom and democracy in Iran.
Dear Friends,
Recent developments in Iran show that the the mullahs are increasingly engulfed in crisis which herald the of the regime.
The  foundation for the downfall of the regime  is in place.  But the regime will not fall on its own. It will  require an organized movement.
The Iranian Resistance, due to its deep roots inside the Iranian society and because of its democratic program for the future of Iran, is competent to direct the developments towards regime change.  But unfortunately, the policies of the western government are still crawling in past phases.
In the past, one way to appease the mullahs was to proscribe the resistance movement.  Today, the manifestation of this policy is  to ignore and downplay the role of the resistance.
They ignore the truth, including the three-decade long perseverance of this movement against the most brutal oppression, the capability of this movement in neutralizing conspiracies  to dismantle and destroy the movement by resorting to massacre in Ashraf or imposing restriction in Camp Liberty, turning it into a prison with inhuman condition.
They also tend to ignore, the role of the Resistance during 2009 and 2010 uprising, concentration of the Ministry of Intelligence and other suppressive apparatus of the regime to crackdown on this movement..
This is all at a situation when the mullahs’ governing weaknesses are surfacing in all areas:
Factional infighting within the ruling clique has reached its peak.  Commanders of IRGC are among from the disaffected of the regime. The regime is facing growing disillusion among its forces.  The mullahs have lost their support base in religious seminary and in Bazaar, both of which are vital for the regime.  The regime cannot control the economic breakdown in the country. And most importantly, the regime faces a deeply dissatisfied population ready for another uprising.
Why do mullahs arrest 800,000 people every year?  And why did they execute at least 600 people last year? Why did the mullahs execute just last week two young men who each had stolen about 3 pounds?  Because they want to control the population.  Because they fear start of another wave of protests.
The most important task for the mullahs following 2009 and 2011 uprisings was to perpetrate a bloody attack on Ashraf.  Their answer to the growing popular discontent is to attack their organized resistance.  Once again as the situation has turned more critical, the mullahs are exerting the most pressures on Ashraf and Liberty, including denial of freedoms, a medical siege, conspiring to plunder their property.  It is clear that as the crisis grows, the danger of its conspiracies against members of the resistance will grow.
The present situation confronts the resistance movement with a huge responsibility.
On one hand we have to confront and counter the regime’s pressures and conspiracies and on the other hand we must respond to our tasks and duties as we have entered the critical phase of our efforts to overthrow the regime.
Therefore, I ask honorable representatives and personalities in the United Kingdom to expand their efforts and supports for the Iranian Resistance in its strive for regime change and establishment of democracy in Iran.
We expect the international community to:
1.    Make the continuation of relations with this regime contingent to the halt of all executions and tortures
2.    Refer the ruling mullahs’ grave violation of human rights track record to the UN Security Council
3.    Provide security and protection to Camp Liberty and ask the United Nations to recognize this camp as a refugee camp and respect the right of Ashraf residents to ownership and selling their property
4.    Recognize the Iranian Resistance for change in Iran
Once again I wish you success on your efforts.  Undoubtedly, the role of these efforts will be known better in the future.
I want to use the opportunity to salute Lord Corbett, Lord Slynn, Lord Archer, Lord Russell Johnson, and Lord Renton who paved the way in this path.
