Iraqi MP Ala Talabani: transferring Ashrafi hostages to Tehran is dangerous

Iraqi News Agency, 13 Oct 2013 – Iraqi MP Ala Talabani from the Kurdish Coalition called on the Parliament Human Rights Commission to follow up on developments in Camp Ashraf with the goal of guaranteeing the rights and safety of refugees’ who are living in Iraq temporarily or on a permanent basis.
“Following up on the issue Ashraf is amongst the duties of the Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission because prior to being a political issue, this matter is a humanitarian and legal issue under the framework of this commission’s responsibilities, especially following the September 1 massacre that took place in this camp and lead to the murder of dozens of camp residents and the abduction of seven others,” she said.
Ala Talabani warned transferring the seven abducted Camp Ashraf hostages to Tehran because they are Iran dissidents and under persecution of this regime. She described this matter as dangerous and said, “Transferring them to Iran without a doubt endangers their lives and security”, adding that such a measure is a violation of international laws and conventions signed by Iraq and recognize these residents.
Ala Talabani emphasized any aggression against the legal rights of refugees in Iraq, especially political refugees, will tarnish the country’s credibility in the face of the international community.
