The German Foreign Ministry issued a statement on 27 December 2011 welcoming an agreement signed between the United Nations and Iraqi government over Camp Ashraf. With this pact signed, the German Foreign Ministry said the camp deadline has been postponed and therefore the threat of incursions and violence resolved for the time being.
On behalf of the UN, UNAMI chief Martin Kobler has gone to the limits to reach a solution in this regard, the statement said, adding the Iraqi government has a responsibility regarding the security of Camp Ashraf residents.
The relocation of Ashraf residents must be peaceful, orderly and without violence and Camp Ashraf residents should respect the agreement and cooperate with the UN, the German Foreign Ministry continued.
