The Syria Human Rights Network published an investigative piece entitled “Photo Holocaust” calling on the United Nations Security Council to find a solution to support detainees in Assad prisons that are currently being treated as hostages.
This investigation refers to images published a year ago by a former Syrian military police official, including 6,627 victims of torture seen in 27,000 images. This network has also been able to identify 772 victims in 3,100 images.
This 27-page research paper, taking around 5 months to prepare, says Syrian regime forces have resorted to the policy of widespread arrests since March 2011, and a large number of people have literally vanished. It is obvious that many of these people died under torture.
The investigation conducted by this network refers to 9 main documented testimonies, two belonging to Assad’s own security officials; four belonging to individuals held in the 601 military hospital in Damascus and three other testimonies belonging to the staff in this hospital.
This research piece has called on the UN Security Council to force the Syrian government to unveil its secret detention centers and allow human rights organizations to visit these sites.
