Warning to Iraqi officials on international prosecution for inhumane measures
Call on UN to recognize Liberty as refugee camp
The Association of Egyptian Jurists in Defense of Ashraf Residents issued a statement describing remarks made recently by Iraqi National Security Advisor Faleh Fayaz as a part of a criminal Iranian regime-led plan against this fascist regime’s strongest opposition.
“Such remarks do not benefit the Iraqi people. In fact, they are solely in the interests of the Iranian regime. Recapping the history of international prosecution regarding these types of inhumane measures, we reiterate that from April 2011, Iraq’s prime minister along with a number of other officials from this country have been under investigation and judicial prosecution by a Spanish criminal court accused of committing crimes against humanity regarding Ashraf residents,” the statement reads.
“Legally, the PMOI in Iraq must be treated according to the frameworks of the 4th Geneva Convention. The US State Department has lifted the terrorist accusation off this organization and there is no excuse for the Iraqi government to take advantage of,” it added.
“Therefore, we suggest to Nouri Maliki and the Ashraf-Liberty suppression committee to refrain from committing any repressive measures against Ashraf and Liberty residents,” the statement continues.
“We also call on the United Nations to recognize Liberty as a refugee camp as soon as possible,” it concludes.
