Saudi Arabia has said that cutting diplomatic and commercial ties with Iran was a “first step” and that further action would be considered if Iran does not change its policies, ITV reported 10 January 2016.
The Saudi Foreign Minister – Adel al-Jubeir – made the comments at an emergency meeting of the Arab League, called urgently to discuss escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
He said that the Islamic Republic would face opposition from all Arab countries if it continued to support “terrorism, sectarianism and violence”.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said his country would discuss potential further actions against Iran
Arab League foreign ministers condemned the attacks on Saudi’s diplomatic mission in Iran.
Other countries followed Saudi Arabia in severing or downgrading ties with Iran following the storming of embassy.
A statement from the meeting in Cairo accused the Iranian authorities of failing to protect the Saudi embassy.
It emerged that some countries expressed a willingness to mediate in the Saudi-Iran row, but al-Jubeir said this would require Iran to be serious about the efforts.
With regards to mediation, there are some states that have expressed their readiness to conduct this, but the important thing is seriousness with regards to the Iranian position.
