Iraqi Vice President warns Iran on its illegitimate approach toward Iraq

Dr. Tariq al-Hashemi, Iraqi Vice President, while expressing his astonishment at the Nouri al-Maliki government’s silence with regard to interfering remarks of Ahmadinejad, warned mullahs’ dictatorship to stop its illegitimate behavior with respect to Iraq, Asharqiya TV reported.

Tariq al-Hashemi: “With great sorrow, the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq continues and the reason for it are the remarks by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran who ordered some of his affiliates, I mean his loyalists in Iraq, to accept one party in the political process and to omit the other , whereas this is an internal Iraqi issue and is not Iran’s business. Quite regrettably nothing was officially released by Iraq to condemn these remarks, neither was  anything released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to condemn it . I waited for several days to see whether the government proceeds with its responsibilities or not,  but no stances were taken. This prompted me to summon the Iranian ambassador to Iraq and tell him that Mr. Ahmadinejad’s remarks are rejected and I personally condemn it; please convey my message to the President not to meddle in Iraq’s internal affairs, and if you intervene in our internal affairs and tell us whom we accept and whom not to accept, then wait to hear a similar remark from us in coming weeks. We, too, shall tell you how to treat reformists and how to treat the People’s Mojahedin. Will that satisfy you? It will certainly cause your resentment and fury.”
