On the 26h day of Iranians’ sit-in in defense of Ashraf residents outside the UN headquarters in New York, several judicial, religious personalities from Britain and US delivered speeches and emphasized that transferring protection of Ashraf to the Iraqi forces is against the Fourth Geneva Convention and International law.
Daniel McCagen, lawyer and jurist from Pennsylvania said: For the past few years after the war, freedom fighters in Ashraf City have been protected by the MNF-I based on he Fourth Geneva Convention, and the MNF-I should continue this responsibility according to the international law and covenants.
The second speaker was Reverent James from Episcopal Church who was participating in the sit-in for the second time. He said: “I want to say to the UN officials that Ashraf should be supported and protected by the United Nations”. He said, “ I wanted to come and encourage you to persist in your cause, but I saw you are teaching me and others how to resist. Referring to the US black movement under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King against racial discrimination, he said: Your sit-in and strike is similar to the 180-days sit-in and strike of Blacks in Alabama who ultimately obtained their rights”. He emphasized: “Your resistance guarantees your victory.”
During this sit-in, American and foreign delegations and personalities visited the exhibition of violation of human rights in Iran and another exhibition about the position of Ashraf City and international supports for it.
